What do the notifications in the Line status section mean?

What types of notifications can you find on the website

There are several different types of notifications, which is why it is important to understand the context of each announcement.

The most common notifications include:

In other words, a TP Line catamaran route may be completely suspended due to bad weather, or only one direction of the route may be affected (from the island to the mainland, or vice versa), which will be clearly stated in the notification. In some cases, only one port may be skipped due to the inability to dock, while the rest of the route continues to operate normally.

That is why it is not enough to read only the notification title — passengers should carefully read the full announcement and check whether the disruption applies specifically to their departure.

Why do service interruptions occur

In catamaran transport, safety always comes before the schedule. When sea conditions are unfavourable, the captain may determine that sailing is not safe for passengers, crew, or the vessel.

The most common reasons include:

Adverse weather conditions

Strong winds, high waves, storms, and poor visibility are the most common reasons for service interruptions. Sea conditions can change very quickly, so a route that operated normally in the morning may later be suspended.

Safety reasons

The captain and operator must always ensure safe navigation. If conditions exceed the permitted safety limits, a TP Line catamaran service may be suspended until conditions stabilise.

How to react when you see the “Service suspended” notice

The most important thing is not to draw conclusions based on the phrase alone. You should check which line, which direction, which date, and which ports are affected.

Since TP Line sometimes operates multiple routes connecting the same destinations, it is important to verify the exact line number in question. For example, line 842 Split – Milna (Brač) – Hvar – Korčula – Dubrovnik may be suspended due to adverse weather conditions in the southern Adriatic, while line 652 Split – Hvar continues to operate according to schedule, even though both lines connect Split and Hvar.

Please check the official carrier notice in the “Line status” section

The first step is to review TP Line’s official channels, especially the Line status section. In addition, TP Line also has a mobile app available for iOS and Android devices, where you can quickly check whether any catamaran lines are suspended.

In the “Line status” section, it is usually clearly stated whether the interruption applies to an entire route or only to a specific departure. The order in which the ports are listed is important for correctly determining the affected direction.

The captain will also often indicate in the notice when the service is expected to resume, if such an estimate is possible.

Check which direction of the route has been cancelled

It is possible that a service interruption does not apply to the entire route, but only to one direction. For example, on line 9401 Olib – Silba – Premuda – Zadar and vice versa, the vessel may not operate only in the direction from Zadar towards Olib, while it still operated normally earlier that same day from Olib towards Zadar, as weather conditions worsened later in the afternoon before the departure from Zadar.

Such a situation may also affect the following day’s departure from the island, as the vessel may remain on the mainland overnight due to adverse weather conditions. It is therefore advisable to always check the travel status the evening before departure, especially when unstable weather is forecast.

Check your email

If you purchased tickets via our web shop or mobile application available on iOS and Android, and there is a notice affecting your sailing, you will receive an email prompting you to check the status of your line on the website.

Notice of possible cancellation

In cases where extremely poor weather is forecast, the captain may issue a notice via the website and mobile app about a possible cancellation, usually the evening before departure. This does not necessarily mean that the service will be cancelled, but it indicates that cancellation is possible due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Passengers are therefore advised to monitor TP Line updates on the website or mobile application in order to be informed in time whether the catamaran line for which they have purchased tickets will be suspended.

Prepare basic information

Before contacting customer support, it is useful to have the following information ready:

This will help you receive faster and more accurate information about whether there is an alternative departure or another transport option available.

TP Line is not obliged to provide an alternative departure in cases where a sailing is cancelled due to weather conditions that compromise navigational safety.

Check whether an alternative sailing is available

If one TP Line catamaran route is suspended, it does not necessarily mean that another route to the same destination is also affected. In some situations, it may be possible to change the departure time or choose an alternative port if available.

Allow enough time to adjust your travel plans

If you have onward travel immediately after your catamaran journey, such as a transfer or a flight, it is advisable to consider travelling on a different day or via an alternative route, especially during periods of unstable weather conditions.

Common misconceptions among passengers

A common misconception is that all carriers in the same area will operate under the same sailing conditions. Each TP Line catamaran route depends on sea conditions, wind strength, route length, and the safety assessment for the specific area.

Another frequent mistake is checking the service status too late. Passengers often head to the port without first reviewing the notices, only to find out upon arrival that there has been a change.

How to best prepare for a sea journey

When travelling to the islands, it is useful to keep in mind that the sea always carries a certain level of unpredictability. This does not mean that disruptions are frequent, but rather that it is wise to consider them as a possible scenario in advance. For this reason, it is important to follow the Line status section, especially during periods of changeable weather.

Good preparation includes purchasing your ticket in advance, regularly checking the route status, and maintaining a more flexible schedule when it comes to important onward connections. If you are travelling to destinations such as Dugi Otok, Iž, Silba, Hvar, Korčula, Mljet, or Lastovo, up-to-date departure information is just as important as the ticket itself. It is also useful to check ticket availability in advance to ensure you secure your place in time.

Refunds for purchased tickets

If you purchased your ticket via the web shop, you may be eligible for a 90% refund, provided that you request the refund in a timely manner, i.e. at least 6 hours before the scheduled departure.

In the case of cancellations due to adverse weather conditions, TP Line will refund 100% of the paid amount.
